The Royal St. George's Society of Halifax

Current Events

In addition to Canada Day and St. George’s Day, Royal St. George’s Society members, friends, and  guests variously gather and celebrate Commonwealth Day (Mar.), Victoria Day (June), Trafalgar Day (Oct.), Waterloo Day (June), Guy Fawkes Day (Nov.), Remembrance Day and others.

We also enjoy Summer Garden Parties, Christmas Holiday Receptions, Luncheons at the Squadron and other interesting venues, Coronation Day Teas, Wine &Cheese Receptions  and occasional  “spur of the moment” social gatherings.  AND, as part of the Isles Heritage Connection, St. George’s members are welcomed at Robbie Burns Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Celtic Colours, Saint Andrews, and Saint David’s Day celebrations and other programs hosted by our sister organizations. Watch for upcoming events.

Recent Past Event: 240th Annual St. George’s Day Dinner

The well-attended traditional St. George’s Day Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding  Dinner, served with a selection of appropriate wines,  was held on Thursday, 23rd April at St. Margaret of Scotland Church Hall, Halifax. Two former Lt. Governors, special guest and old and new members were in attendance. The Rev. Canon Stephen Paul Booth’s  timely and thought-provoking  address on “The Ubiquity of English Tradition and Culture” was well received and, at the request of several attendees, is now posted on our Blogs & Asides page. As usual, the evening was punctuated with music, good conversation and cheer. An ad hoc committee has already been struck and plans are underway for an even better 241st St. George’s Day dinner  on 23rd April, 2027. Save the date!

Upcoming Event: Chester Garden Party (August date TBA)

Enjoy our upcoming casual August afternoon with friends, wine and finger-foods and conversation and cheer at our Past President Carol Dodd’s tangled garden in beautiful Chester by the Sea. This is the perfect event for your special guests.
